In a Tweet, he said Taliban attacks left 291 security force personnel dead and 550 others wounded.

He said this shows that Taliban’s commitment to reduce violence is meaningless, and their actions are inconsistent with their rhetoric on peace.

Meanwhile, Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has rejected the latest government figures.

He said the enemy aims to hurt the peace process and intra-Afghan talks by releasing such false reports.

However, Javid Faisal, spokesman for the National Security Council called the previous week the “deadliest” in the country’s 19 years of conflict.

“Taliban’s commitment to reduce violence is meaningless, and their actions inconsistent with their rhetoric on peace,” he said.

In a cabinet meeting Monday, President Ashraf Ghani condemned the violence, which he blamed on the Taliban.

But Afghan Taliban spokesman interpreted differently. He called some attacks last week were mostly in defence.

Meanwhile, U.S. Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad also condemned the attack against the Afghan Attorney General’s lawyers and other team members working to facilitate prisoner releases.

This attack, carried out by enemies of peace, took the lives of five civilians. We offer our condolences
