Pakistan observes World No Tobacco Day
Pakistan observes World No Tobacco Day today (Monday) with the theme of “Commit to quit”.
According to World Health Organization, nearly 60 percent of tobacco users around the world want to quit smoking.

But, only 30 percent of the global population have access to quality tobacco cessation services.
Meanwhile, the WHO has also launched a campaign aiming to help 100 million people quit tobacco use through various initiatives and digital tools.
According to the WHO, this yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco.
It also informs about the business practices of tobacco companies and what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic.
Moreover, it informs what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.
The Member States of the World Health Organization created World No Tobacco Day in 1987.
It aimed to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes.
In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38. That called for 7 April 1988 a “a world no-smoking day.”
In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 passed, calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, every year on 31 May.
