Lucknow (Web Desk) – Afghanistan kept alive its hopes of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals after beating the Netherlands by seven wickets in a low-scoring group match on Friday.
Afghanistan moved up to fifth place on the table with eight points, behind New Zealand on net run rate. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.
Afghanistan have won just one match in the previous two World Cups, but the Asian side now have four wins at the tournament in India, after beating defending champions England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
“Of  course , we are trying 100% to reach the semi-finals. If this happens, it will be a great achievement for our country,” Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi said after leading the chase with an unbeaten 50-run record.
“My mother passed away three months ago, so my family is very sad. That would be a huge achievement, first of all for the country but also for my family.
“Currently, many refugees are facing difficulties. We are with them during this difficult time. I dedicate this victory to the suffering refugees.”
