ANP announces support for Zardari in presidential election

Awami National Party (ANP) has announced its support for Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential elections.

The PPP delegation met the leadership of Awami National Party at Bacha Khan Center in Charsadda, in which the current political situation was discussed. The PPP delegation comprised Sherry Rehman, Afzal Nadeem Chun and Nayyar Bukhari while the ANP’s senior leadership including Senator Hidayatullah Khan and Senator Arbab Umar Farooq Kasi were also present in the meeting.

In a statement released by the Bacha Khan Center, it was stated that the PPP delegation requested to ANP to support Asif Ali Zardari in the coming presidential election. But, the ANP has decided not to participate in parliamentary politics, it added.

Later, a PPP delegation led by Asif Ali Zardari met with ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Aimal Wali. The declaration issued by the PPP, after the meeting, claimed that the ANP would support Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential elections.

However, ANP spokesperson Zahid Khan was unaware of the party’s decision and said that Asfandyar Wali had announced not to take part in the parliamentary elections.

According to Zahid Khan, the first statement was from the central president of the party, now Asif Zardari had met with ANP’s provincial president. The matter would be cleared by the party’s central and provincial leadership, he added.
