Taapsee Pannu opens up on being harassed on public transport

10 August, 2024 18:08

In a candid conversation with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu shared her personal experience of physical harassment in public transport in Delhi, highlighting the stark contrast in safety between Indian cities.

Pannu, who hails from Delhi, revealed that she has faced harassment in her hometown, but found cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai relatively safer.

Pannu recounted a harrowing incident from her teenage years, where she was inappropriately touched in public transport in Delhi.

“It happens often in public spaces. It’s something every girl who uses public transport in Delhi experiences,” she said. However, she expressed gratitude for never feeling unsafe on film sets, despite the industry’s reputation.

The actress, who has been vocal about women’s safety, emphasized the difference in mindset between Delhi and Mumbai.

“In Delhi, even my parents are cautious and expect me to call every 15 minutes after 8 PM. But in Mumbai, the atmosphere is different, and the mindset is more relaxed,” she observed.

On the work front, Pannu’s latest release, “Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba,” premiered on Netflix on August 9. She is also awaiting the release of “Khel Khel Mein,” a comedy flick slated to hit theaters on August 15, coinciding with Indian Independence Day.
