Michael Byrne, who played Grindelwald in 'Harry Potter,' dies at 82
Hollywood veteran actor Michael Byrne has died at the age of 82. He is best known for his roles in Harry Potter and deathly Hallows-Part 1 and Coronation Street.
On June 2026, Bryne left this world after give almost 60 years to his life to acting career in stage, television and film.
The actor was born in November 7,1943 in Hampstead, London. In 1963, before joining Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre Company at the Old Vic, he has done his training at the the Central School of Speech and Drama.
He performed together with actors including Maggie Smith and Robert Stephens during his early stage of acting career.
Following his career, he also appear at some of the UK’s leading theatres such as the Royal Court, Young Vic, West End and the Royal Exchange in Manchester.
He portrayed the older Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, a role that Harry Potter fans still remember.
Byrne featured as an opposite actor Alan Bates in Harold Pinter’s production of Simon Gray’s Butley in 1971, from where he begins his permanent bond with the actor.
Byrne’s career in acting was widespread as unforgettable roles in the movies such as Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Apt Pupil.
On television Bryne appeared in Coronation Street as Ted Page Gail Platt’s long-lost father and Audrey Roberts’ former partner.
Only only films and Television, Bryne also appeared in famous series such as Casualty, A Touch of Frost and Sharpe.
Byrne is survived by his former wife Carole who cared for him in his later years, their daughters Tara and Bryony and his three grandchildren, Tom, Chloe and Jasmine.
