BTS Sparks Debate After Skipping 69th Grammy Awards Submission

K-pop group BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) has declared that it will not submit any music for concern at the 69th Grammy Awards this year.

The seven members of the group shared the news over their official social media accounts on the afternoon of the 29th, saying they had decided not to pass in their music for the upcoming awards.

The members also shared their message about how music should be enjoyed and recognized. The group said they desired music to be adored and cherished for what it is, deprived of being separated based on region or language. They also express thanks their fans, known as ARMY, and every person who has constantly support them throughout their career.

The group extended new pinnacles of global success with their fifth full-length album, ‘Arirang,’ which was out in March. BTS braced their spot as a global music group after the album surpassed both Billboard charts.

BTS’s choice to miss submitting their music for the Grammys has generated speculation about whether it is linked to the Recording Academy’s recent move.

Last Month, a new award category announced by The Grammys “Best Asian Pop Music Performance.” The move confronted disapproval from some people who sensed that forming a separate category could promote divide music by region.

Some critics argued that K-pop and other Asian music could be separated from the Grammys’ biggest categories, such as Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Record of the Year.

BTS’s move has raised fresh questions about the recognition and representation of Asian artists at prestigious international music awards.
