Buckingham Palace to Remain Open as Balmoral Castle Closes

Buckingham Palace has announced that it will remain open to visitors this summer, while Balmoral Castle has closed to the public amid King Charles’ plans with the Royal Family.

The Royal Collection Trust, in a joint post with Buckingham Palace, shared details of a new display featuring handwritten letters and drawings sent to King Charles by children from around the world.

“This summer at Buckingham Palace, explore a new display that reproduces handwritten letters and drawings sent to The King by children from around the world,” the announcement said.

It added that many children write to the King to talk about topics they care about, including the environment and sustainability. Some also ask him about his duties as monarch and Head of the Commonwealth.

Buckingham Palace will remain open to visitors until September 27, 2026.

The announcement came a day after Balmoral Castle closed its doors to the public. The castle’s official Instagram account announced the closure on Sunday.

“Balmoral Castle, including the grounds, gardens and exhibitions, is now closed to the public,” the statement said.

It thanked everyone who visited the castle and estate during the 2026 summer season and said it hoped visitors enjoyed their time there and left with lasting memories.

The statement also asked people to follow Balmoral’s social media channels for future updates, including the return of the “Balmoral Castle Exclusively Highlands Artisan Market” on November 6, 7 and 8.
