Prince William and Harry Avoid Questions About Princess Diana Memoir

Prince William and Prince Harry have chosen not to comment publicly on their uncle Charles Spencer’s new memoir about their late mother, Princess Diana.

The brothers were separately asked about Swan Song: Diana, My Sister during public appearances in London on September 21 and 22. However, neither brother responded to the questions.

Prince Harry Questioned About His Uncle

Harry, 42, was the first to be asked about the memoir when he arrived at the Royal Lancaster Hotel for the WellChild Awards on September 21.

As he arrived the location, a reporter asked Harry if he had spoken to his uncle in current days. The Duke of Sussex did not reply and continued into the event.

Prince William Also Chooses Not to Respond

The next day, on September 22, William, 44, was also asked about the memoir during an engagement at ActOne Cinema in London.

An off-camera reporter asked the Prince of Wales about his thoughts on his uncle’s book. William did not respond to the question and continued inside the venue.

Charles Spencer Explains What the Memoir Includes

Charles Spencer has previously said that he told William and Harry about the memoir at the same time.

He also revealed that Harry was concerned about whether the book included anything embarrassing about him. Spencer said he reassured Harry that there was nothing of that kind in the memoir.

According to Spencer, William and Harry mainly appear in the book as Diana’s two young sons. He also said that he made sure their privacy was respected.

The 9th Earl Spencer acknowledged that the book’s portrayal of their father, King Charles, could have been a sensitive issue. He said there was other material he could have included but decided to leave it out because he did not want the memoir to focus on scandal.

Swan Song: Diana, My Sister has gained attention for Charles Spencer’s memories of Diana’s life, her marriage and the events following her death in 1997.

One disputed part of the memoir involves an alleged conversation between Spencer and the then-Prince Charles after Diana’s death. Spencer has continued to stand by his account, while Buckingham Palace issued a rare response, saying that grief can affect a person’s memory and judgment.
