May 9 culprits will be taken to task: Army’s top brass

The Corps Commanders’ Conference has expressed determination that as per Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s determination, the planners and facilitators of May 9 will be dealt with strictly.

According to the Public Relations Department of Pakistan Army (ISPR), a Corps Commanders Conference was held under the chairmanship of Army Chief General Asim Munir in which the forum paid tribute to the great sacrifices of martyrs.

The conference paid tribute to the officers and men of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and citizens and said that the men, law enforcement agencies, citizens sacrificed their lives to ensure peace and stability in the country.

On this occasion, the Army Chief vowed to consolidate the fruits of efforts against terrorism and militancy.

The Corps Commanders’ Conference commended the law enforcement agencies for providing assistance in the general elections and the forum expressed its concern over false and fake news being spread by certain nefarious elements to create frustration and division.

The ISPR said that the armed forces had nothing to do with the election process. Despite the difficulties, the armed forces provided a safe environment during the election in light of the directives of the Election Commission.

The forces provided a security environment in the elections as their mandate.

The Corps Commanders’ Conference expressed concern over fake news and misinformation and said that some elements want to spread disillusionment among the people by spreading false news. These elements want to create division in the society, it added.
