Ishaq Dar Seeks Singapore’s Support for Repatriation of Pakistani and Iranian Seafarers Seized by US
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has contacted Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to seek assistance in the repatriation of Pakistani and Iranian seafarers aboard vessels seized by US authorities.
In a statement shared on X, Ishaq Dar said he requested Singapore’s support to help facilitate the welfare and safe return of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian crew members currently located near Singaporean waters.
Dar also confirmed that he spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as Pakistan continues close coordination with Iran regarding the matter.
The foreign minister emphasized that Pakistan is prepared to assist in the safe repatriation of Iranian nationals to Iran through Pakistani territory if required.
He thanked Singapore for its cooperation and support in handling the situation.
According to Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Office and relevant authorities are maintaining close communication with US authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the safety, welfare, and early return of the Pakistani nationals.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that Singapore’s foreign minister appreciated Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts and its role in promoting regional peace and stability through dialogue between the United States and Iran.
During the discussions, both sides also reviewed maritime affairs and recent incidents in international waters. They agreed to maintain close coordination between their respective authorities.
The two foreign ministers further discussed bilateral relations and stressed the importance of continued high-level engagement and communication.
Pakistan had previously facilitated the return of 22 Iranian crew members from the seized Iranian container ship MV Touska after the United States transferred them to Pakistan as part of confidence-building measures.
