Karachi introduces E-Challan system for Lane Violations on Shahra-e-Faisal
The Karachi Traffic Police have launched an automated e-challan system to improve traffic discipline and reduce congestion on Shahra-e-Faisal, one of the busiest roads in the city.
The new system has been introduced under the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) and became effective from June 1. It aims to enforce lane discipline through a fully automated and “faceless” monitoring system.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Pir Mohammed Shah, specific lanes have now been assigned for different types of vehicles. The two leftmost lanes are reserved for commercial vehicles and motorcycles.
Private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and double-cabin vehicles are not allowed to use these lanes. Instead, they must travel in the fast lane and the second lane from the right, which are dedicated to private traffic.
Officials said Shahra-e-Faisal includes both three-lane and four-lane sections. In three-lane areas, the middle lane may be used by both commercial and private vehicles depending on traffic flow.
From Monday, any violation of these lane rules will be automatically detected and processed through the TRACS e-challan system, with no manual intervention.
Authorities have urged drivers to follow the rules to help improve traffic flow and ensure safer roads for all commuters.
