AJK Government Firmly Rejects JAAC’s Continued Protests, Warns of Legal Action as June 9 Elections Approach

05 June, 2026 20:04

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has taken a firm and unambiguous stance against the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), accusing the organisation of spreading a “misleading and baseless narrative” in the name of public issues, stating that the facts are now before the people.

Political Leadership and Opposition United Against JAAC

AJK’s political leadership and opposition parties appear united against JAAC’s stubbornness and protest-driven politics. The government emphasised that while it chose the path of negotiations, relief, and implementation, JAAC “preferred pressure and street politics over flexibility” — a choice that authorities say reflects political agenda rather than genuine public interest.

35 of 38 Demands Accepted — Yet Protests Continue

In a significant revelation, the government confirmed that 35 out of 38 demands presented by JAAC have already been accepted. Despite this, the organisation continues to insist on protests. Officials stated clearly that “insisting on protests after 35 out of 38 demands have been accepted is not in the public interest — it is political stubbornness.”

The All-Parties Conference declaration has also been formally endorsed by the AJK Legislative Assembly, which the government described as “a clear expression of democratic consensus.” Authorities stressed that “the AJK Assembly is the highest forum of public representation and its decisions cannot be rejected through street pressure.”

June 9 Elections Must Not Be Disrupted

With elections scheduled for June 9, the government issued a stern warning that any attempt to obstruct the electoral process “will not be a defence of public rights but an attempt to undermine the democratic process.” Citizens were urged to place their trust in votes, dialogue, and constitutional process rather than shutdowns, strikes, and pressure politics.

Government Keeps Door Open, Warns of Consequences

The government made clear that it has not closed the door on negotiations, but JAAC “chose confrontation over dialogue.” Authorities warned that if attempts are made to disturb law and order through stubbornness, “legal action will be inevitable.” The government called for stability, dialogue, and practical solutions, stating that “Azad Kashmir needs stability, dialogue, and practical solutions — not continuous protests.”

Officials concluded with a firm commitment: “There should be no compromise on peace and stability in Azad Kashmir; any attempt to hold public life hostage must be stopped within the bounds of the law.”
