PCB set to reappoint Babar as white-ball captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to reappoint Babar Azam as white-ball captain, GTV citing its sources reported Friday.

The decision was made after consultation with the newly formed selection committee. The New Zealand series would be his first assignment after the appointment.

The prolific runs getter stepped down from the captaincy after a disappointing ICC World Cup campaign back in November last year.

Shaheen Shah Afridi had a poor start to his captaincy stint as Pakistan suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat against New Zealand. Moreover, his captaincy misery continued in the HBL Pakistan Super League season nine as defending champions Lahore Qalandars were knocked out from the tournament after losing six game on a trot.

His performance in the Pakistan’s premier T20 competition put him in a tight spot to continue with the Pakistan cricket team as its leader.

Mohammad Rizwan was the other candidate for the captaincy, sources said.

Meanwhile, after the decision, Shaheen is thinking about stepping down as T20I captain. However, sources close to the pacer have advised him against it.

The pacer replaced Babar as skipper in T20I cricket, while Shan Masood was appointed as the leader int Test cricket last year.
