PPP will listen to PTI on any election irregularities: Bilawal

04 March, 2024 13:20

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has extended his party’s support to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the matter pertaining to any election irregularities.

The former foreign minister made these comments while addressing to the National Assembly session in Islamabad on Monday.

Bilawal started the speech by condemning the ruckus and consistent sloganeering during yesterday’s NA session that saw Shehbaz Sharif elected as prime minister.

“I appeal to all of you, especially those who are members of this House for a third time, don’t create this kind of ruckus here.”

He noted that the country has been unsuccessful in judicial and election reforms, requesting that conversations be had on both these topics.

During Bilawal’s speech, Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf warned of taking against PTI MNA Jamshed Dasti.

The warning followed after PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, “If you think the people of Pakistan are a fool, then you are wrong. We all know that someone on purpose printed that alleged copy of the cipher.”

“If I violate the Constitution, then have me punished 100 times, but if someone from that side violates the Constitution, then have them punished,” he said while referring to the opposition.

Sloganeering and ruckus were once again seen during today’s NA session as Bilawal continued with his speech.

“If we can address these, then no power in the world can weaken Pakistan’s democracy,” he said.

Bilawal welcomed steps taken by newly-elected PM in giving subsidies to farmers for fertilisers, as was in the PPP’s 10-point manifesto, he noted.

He called for a shutdown of giving subsidies to businesses, saying: “We cannot afford to be a social welfare state for the rich.”

The nation is waiting on us to solve their problems, he added.
