Neeraj Chopra lauds Arshad Nadeem’s historic feat

09 August, 2024 10:20

Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra has paid tribute to history maker Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem saying that today was his day.

Chopra clinched a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, performing in front of a charged crowd at Stade de France. He made his season best throw of 89.45m for a place at the podium.

However, the talk of the two was Arshad Nadeem’s record shattering 92.97m throw, which earned him an Olympic gold.

Chopra echoed words of praise for his Pakistani counterpart stating that he gave his best but it was Arshad’s day.

“We feel happy whenever we win a medal for our country, it is time to improve the game now. We will sit, discuss, and enhance our performance. India performed well at Paris Olympics, and the competition was strong,” he told ANI.

“Today was Arshad’s day. I gave my best, but there are areas that need improvement.”

“Our national anthem may not have been played today, but will definitely be played somewhere in future. If not Paris, then elsewhere,” he concluded.

The previous games record was 90.57m was held by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway. He set the record at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Neeraj Chopra became only the third Indian athlete, and the first in track and field, to win back-to-back individual medals at the games.
