Train Collides with Tractor Near Leominster — Six Injured, Rail Services Disrupted

A serious accident happened on morning, May 22, in Leominster, Herefordshire. A train collided with a tractor on a level crossing near Nordan Farm.

The train was travelling from Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff. It hit the tractor shortly after 10:45 AM.

There were 66 passengers on the train. Six people were injured in the crash. Their injuries are not believed to be serious. The condition of the tractor driver has not been confirmed yet.

Emergency Response

Many emergency services rushed to the scene. These included:

  • British Transport Police

  • West Mercia Police

  • West Midlands Ambulance Service

  • Air Ambulance

  • Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service

Seven fire stations sent their crews to help.

A fire service spokesperson said the crash involved a train and a farm trailer unit. Six people were treated by paramedics. Thankfully, there was no fire and the train did not derail.

Rail Disruption Across the Region

The crash has caused major delays. All train lines between Hereford and Craven Arms are blocked.

National Rail and Transport for Wales confirmed that trains are cancelled or delayed. This disruption is expected to last until at least 7 PM.

Replacement bus services are being provided at:

  • Newport

  • Shrewsbury

  • Hereford

Photos from the crash show the front of the train beside a heavily damaged tractor trailer.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said officers were called at 10:40 AM. They are now investigating how the tractor ended up on the tracks.

The full cause of the accident is still unknown.

Investigation Continues

Police and Network Rail are leading the investigation.

A Transport for Wales spokesperson confirmed that all lines in the area have stopped. They are working to restore normal service.

A spokesperson for National Rail added that the incident is being treated seriously. Services may remain disrupted for the rest of the day.
