Clifton George Charged with Murder of Annabel Rook After Gas Explosion in London

A 44-year-old man named Clifton George has been formally charged with the murder of Annabel Rook, following a shocking incident that involved a stabbing and a gas explosion at her home in Stoke Newington, north-east London.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Monday that George has also been charged with arson with intent to endanger life. He is scheduled to appear before Thames Magistrates’ Court later today.

Tragic Death of Annabel Rook

Emergency services responded to a report of a gas explosion at around 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, at a property on Dumont Road. Upon arrival, they discovered Annabel Rook, co-founder of the charity MamaSuze CIC, with fatal stab wounds. She was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities believe the explosion was not accidental and have treated it as part of a wider criminal investigation.

Family Pays Tribute

In a heart-wrenching statement, Ms. Rook’s family expressed their devastation: “The family are struggling to come to terms with this terrible tragedy. We have lost our beautiful daughter, sister, friend and mother. Annabel was a truly wonderful woman. She touched the hearts of so many.”

The statement further highlighted Annabel’s life of service: “She gave her life to helping the vulnerable and the disadvantaged, whether it was in refugee camps in Africa or setting up MamaSuze in London to enhance the lives of survivors of forced displacement and gender-based violence.”

The family has requested privacy as they grieve the loss.

Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke of the Metropolitan Police said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the family and friends of Annabel as they navigate this devastating loss.”
