Ramadan 2026 Likely to Begin on February 19, Astronomy Experts Confirm

05 October, 2025 16:02

Astronomers have forecasted that Ramadan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is likely to start on February 19, 2026. According to the initial astronomical calculations by the Emirates Astronomy Society, only 139 days remain until the beginning of the holy month.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, explained that the new moon for Ramadan will be born on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 4:01 PM. However, the moon is expected to set just one minute after sunset that day, making it difficult to sight the crescent moon. For this reason, the first fast is anticipated to begin on February 19.

“The final announcement will be made by the official moon sighting committee,” Al Jarwan added. In Abu Dhabi, the fasting duration on the first day of Ramadan is expected to be approximately 12 hours and 46 minutes, gradually increasing to about 13 hours and 25 minutes as the days lengthen.

This early prediction provides residents with ample time to prepare for Ramadan and its spiritual observances.
