Who Is in the Johnston Family? The World’s Largest Family of Little People
It has been ten years since TLC premiered 7 Little Johnstons in March 2015, a reality series that follows Trent and Amber Johnston along with their five children, the world’s largest known family living with achondroplasia dwarfism. The show returns for its 16th season in October 2025.
Trent and Amber Johnston have been married since 1998 and reside in Forsyth, Georgia. Together, they are parents to Jonah (born 1999), Anna (born 2000), Elizabeth (born 2001), and twins Alex and Emma (born 2005). The couple adopted Anna, Alex, and Emma.
Amber shared in May 2017, “We tell our kids, ‘You’re just like everyone else,’ ” adding, “‘You can do things, you can go places and you can be whoever you want to be.’”
Both Trent and Amber were raised with a strong and positive outlook on life. Trent, who grew up in a family of little people, explained, “[But] we didn’t have a ‘Woe is me’ attitude. My parents raised us just like every other parent would raise their child.” Amber, the only person with dwarfism in her family, noted, “I was the only little person in a family of average people, but my parents raised me the same as my siblings. Plus, I’m the oldest, so even though I was smaller, I was always in charge.”
The couple met as teenagers at a 1995 Little People of America convention. Trent recalled their first meeting in a 2015 interview: “I saw a gorgeous blonde-haired, blue-eyed, 16-year-old girl,” while Amber said, “I saw a very attractive young man with a funny personality … Trent was my first relationship, we soon became best friends and we knew we’d get married.”
In 2014, the Johnstons moved their family to Forsyth, Georgia, where they bought a 6,000-square-foot fixer-upper that was originally a church built in 1891 — the family home featured on 7 Little Johnstons. At the start of the series, Trent worked as a grounds supervisor at a local college, while Amber was a stay-at-home mom who has since earned a master’s degree in social work from Louisiana State University.
The family’s eldest child, Jonah, was born prematurely on December 1, 1999, arriving five and a half weeks early with underdeveloped lungs. Trent recalled in season 15, “His lungs did not work, and they were not developed all the way. And he was on life support for six and a half weeks.” Amber tearfully added, “In that moment there, we were literally minute by minute on if we were going to leave a hospital with a baby or without a baby.”
Today, Jonah is grown and has taken an active role behind the scenes as a producer on 7 Little Johnstons since 2014. He has also worked in automotive sales and earned an F&I certification in vehicle financing and insurance. Currently, he is pursuing a business degree at Middle Georgia State University.
