JD Vance Calls Israel’s West Bank Vote a Foolish Political Stunt
TEL AVIV: US Vice President JD Vance has criticized the Israeli parliament’s recent vote on the annexation of the occupied West Bank, calling it a “foolish political stunt” with no real impact.
Speaking to journalists at Tel Aviv Airport before departing after his visit to Israel, Vance said the vote was merely symbolic and carried no practical effect. “If this was meant as a political move, it was a very foolish one,” he remarked, adding that he personally viewed it as “an insult to the Gaza peace agreement.”
The US vice president reaffirmed that the Trump administration’s policy remains unchanged — that the West Bank will not be annexed into Israel. He said while Israel’s parliament has the right to hold symbolic votes, Washington is not pleased with the move.
It is worth noting that the Israeli Knesset recently passed the first phase of a controversial bill seeking to annex parts of the occupied West Bank into Israel. However, approval for the next phase of the bill has been temporarily halted.
