Trump Comments On Latest Shooting Incident

WASHINGTON: Following the latest in a string of attacks targeting the Republican leader, US President Donald Trump took a philosophical stance on Saturday after a shooter stormed a media gala in Washington.

“May I respectfully ask why you think this keeps happening to you?” Following the tumultuous event at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a reporter questioned Trump.

The 79-year-old Trump’s prepared response focused on his own place in the annals of US leaders.

Trump remarked, “You know, I’ve studied assassinations.” “And I have to tell you that the most influential individuals, those who accomplish the most—look at Abraham Lincoln—are the ones who are targeted.”

“I hate to say I’m honored by that, but I’ve done a lot,” Trump said, adding, “We’ve changed this country, and there are a lot of people that are not happy about that. So I think that’s the answer.”

“I lead a pretty normal life, considering, you know, it’s a dangerous life,” said Trump, who escaped an assassination attempt during a 2024 political rally.

“You know, you read about a lot of other folks that turn into basket cases. I’m not a basket case, to be honest.

Despite having previously referred to the media as the “enemy of the people,” Trump adopted a measured stance toward them, stating that there was “a tremendous amount of love and coming together” following the incident.

When the meal was rescheduled, he claimed he was prepared to deliver the “most inappropriate speech ever made,” but it would now be “very boring.”

Trump riffed on one of his favorite subjects, the massive $400 million ballroom he is constructing at the White House, after the incident on Saturday, which he attributed to a “would-be assassin.”

Trump claimed that the Washington Hilton, the location of the correspondents’ dinner, was “not particularly secure,” demonstrating the necessity of building a new ballroom.
