Mexican Court Sentences Three Men to 158 Years for Killing Australian Brothers, US Friend

17 October, 2026 17:28

A Mexican court has sentenced three men convicted of murdering Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad to 158 years and nine months in prison each. The three victims were killed in 2024 during an apparent robbery attempt targeting their vehicle while they were on a surfing trip in the Baja California region. The guilty verdict was delivered last week, bringing a major development in a case that attracted international attention.

During the trial, the court heard that the brothers and their friend were killed on a secluded beach and that their bodies were later discovered in a well with gunshot wounds to their heads. The victims’ deaths shocked Australia and raised concerns among residents and tourists in the coastal town of Ensenada, an area not typically associated with the levels of violence reported elsewhere in Mexico. The convicted men were identified as Jesús Gerardo, Irineo Francisco and Angel Jesus, with their full names withheld for legal reasons.

Debra Robinson, the brothers’ mother, told the court that the murders had taken away “the future we had imagined with them.” In a related case, the girlfriend of Jesus Gerardo, also known as “El Kekas,” was sentenced to 20 years in prison in November 2025 after admitting involvement in the robbery. The case has drawn renewed attention to violent crime and the safety of visitors in popular Mexican tourist destinations.
