Italy increases student visa financial requirement - check details
Italy has increased the financial requirement for international students applying for a Type D Study Visa.
For the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 academic years, students must now show at least €10,179.85 per year. Earlier, the required amount was around €6,000.
For Pakistani students, this equals about Rs3.2 million, depending on the exchange rate.
Proof of Funds Required
Students must show that their money comes from legal and clear sources. Italian visa offices will carefully check bank statements, income records, and ownership of funds.
Officials may also review account activity to make sure the money was not added temporarily only for visa approval.
Family Support Allowed
Students are preferred to keep the required funds in their own bank accounts.
However, financial support from family members up to the fourth degree relation will still be accepted if proper documents are provided.
Scholarship Students Also Need Proof
Students applying with scholarships must also provide financial proof.
They need an official scholarship award letter. Support from recognized Italian or international institutions may also be accepted.
Final Visa Decision
Even if a student gets admission and meets the financial requirement, the final visa decision will be made by the Italian embassy or consulate after reviewing the applicant’s background.
Advice for Students
Students planning to study in Italy should prepare their documents early and check updates on official embassy websites and the Universitaly portal before applying.
