Trump cancels Iran strikes at last minute, claims breakthrough on regional deal

12 June, 2026 12:51

US President Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of planned military strikes against Iran, saying that progress has been made toward a broad regional agreement.

According to Trump, intensive diplomatic efforts helped secure support for the proposed framework from Iran’s leadership and several countries in the region.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said the United States was prepared for military action but decided to step back after what he described as a major diplomatic breakthrough.

The proposed agreement reportedly involves several regional countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Israel, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

Trump described the plan as a possible step toward long-term stability in the region. However, details of the agreement have not yet been officially released.

Despite the suspension of military action, the United States will continue its naval blockade in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz until a formal agreement is signed.

Officials said the blockade will remain in place to ensure compliance with the proposed terms.

Regional observers welcomed the reduction in tensions but noted that the situation remains delicate until a final agreement is reached.

Meanwhile, officials in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have not yet issued detailed statements regarding their reported role in the diplomatic efforts.
