Iran Demands Full Removal of US Sanctions Under Bilateral Understanding

Iran has reiterated its demand for the complete removal of US sanctions, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stating that Washington is obligated to lift all economic restrictions imposed on Tehran under a memorandum of understanding between the two countries. Speaking at a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Baghaei described the sanctions as illegal and emphasized that their removal remains a key expectation of the Iranian government.
According to the spokesman, the United States is required to eliminate primary and secondary sanctions, as well as restrictions related to the United Nations Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency. He said the commitments outlined in the understanding are clear and should be implemented in full to ensure progress in relations between Tehran and Washington.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions over Iran’s nuclear program and broader diplomatic engagement with the United States. Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that sanctions relief is essential for building trust and advancing any future agreements, while emphasizing that all parties must adhere to their commitments under negotiated frameworks.
