Iran’s Pezeshkian Visits Pakistan to Push Full Implementation of Iran-US MoU

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan’s capital on Tuesday for a one-day official visit, declaring that his primary objective is to ensure the complete and full operationalization of every clause of the memorandum of understanding recently concluded between Tehran and Washington, while publicly acknowledging Pakistan’s central role in bringing the landmark agreement to fruition.

Speaking to reporters before departing Tehran, President Pezeshkian attributed the agreement’s success directly to the intensive diplomatic efforts of senior Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Pezeshkian described the role played by Pakistani officials in defending Iranian interests as “indispensable,” adding that their dedication to achieving a peaceful resolution may have surpassed even Iran’s own urgency.

The Iranian president was emphatic about the non-negotiable nature of the agreement, stating plainly:

Pezeshkian said the MoU’s successful implementation could resolve a significant number of the region’s longstanding problems, particularly amid what he described as “unjust wars and aggression by the Zionist regime against Islamic countries.” He noted that a key provision of the agreement explicitly prohibits such aggression, expressing hope it would lead to lasting regional security and what he called the “cutting off of the hands of aggressors.”

The visit agenda includes bilateral discussions covering commercial, economic, cultural, security, and military cooperation. Pezeshkian also underscored Iran’s intention to deepen ties with other Islamic nations including Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, describing this regional outreach as a strategic priority aligned with the guidance of Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Pakistan played a pivotal role in brokering the Iran-US MoU — an agreement that ended the hostilities triggered by US-Israeli air raids against Iran on February 28. The deal also includes provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the eventual removal of all sanctions, subject to further negotiations.

However, tensions remain. A follow-up diplomatic session held in Switzerland on Sunday was overshadowed by fresh remarks from US President Donald Trump that Iranian officials deemed threatening. Tehran has made clear it expects the full implementation of the MoU, including permanent cessation of all forms of aggression and the complete lifting of sanctions, and has expressed growing frustration over what it views as continued US hostility despite the signed framework.
