The United Arab Emirates (UAE) offers a Green Visa, which is a long-term residency permit valid for five years and can be renewed. It is designed for freelancers, self-employed individuals, investors, and skilled professionals from around the world.
The Green Visa is part of the UAE’s plan to attract global talent and provide a more flexible and stable lifestyle for people living and working in the country.
When an applicant is approved, they first receive a work entry visa under the category of high-level skilled worker. This allows them to stay in the UAE for up to 60 days or until their residency process is completed.

Eligibility for Freelancers and Self-Employed Individuals

- Hold a freelance or self-employment permit from the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation
- Have at least a bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification
- Show proof of financial stability or consistent income
- Earn at least AED 360,000 per year from freelance work over the last two years
Visa Fees
The basic work visa fee is AED 200, plus 5% VAT. Additional charges may include:
- Knowledge Dirham: AED 10
- Innovation Dirham: AED 10
- Inside-country processing fee: AED 500
Based on an exchange rate of 1 AED = Rs75.9 (as of June 25, 2026), the AED 200 visa fee is approximately Rs15,180 in Pakistani currency.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- A recent personal photograph
- Passport copy valid for at least 6 months
- Permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation
- Employment contract (if applicable in government, semi-government, or free zone sectors)
