USGS Records 6.7 Magnitude Earthquake in Southern Philippines at 65km Depth

26 June, 2026 18:43

A significant earthquake struck the southern region of the Philippines, registering a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The American seismological monitoring center confirmed that the earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 65 kilometers beneath the surface, classifying it as an intermediate-depth seismic event. Such depths typically reduce the intensity of surface shaking but can still cause widespread tremors felt across a large geographic area.

The southern Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most seismically active zones in the world, making the region highly susceptible to frequent earthquake activity. Authorities are monitoring the situation for potential aftershocks, and assessments of any damage or casualties are currently underway.
