Pakistan, Canada Pledge Stronger Bilateral Ties During Canadian Foreign Minister’s Visit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the visit of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand marks an important milestone in Pakistan-Canada relations, noting that it is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties. Addressing a joint press conference, Dar highlighted the two countries’ longstanding relationship and said discussions had opened new avenues for cooperation in multiple sectors, particularly trade and investment.

Dar said enhancing economic cooperation remains a shared priority, with both sides focusing on expanding business-to-business links. He also announced that a new agricultural protocol between Pakistan and Canada is expected to be signed soon, adding that the vibrant Pakistani community in Canada continues to serve as a vital pillar of bilateral relations.

Anita Anand said her visit is the first by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in 20 years, describing it as a significant step in revitalizing relations. She praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and reiterated Canada’s support for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve regional tensions, stressing that all parties should exercise restraint and prioritize the protection of civilians.

The Canadian foreign minister said both countries had agreed to further strengthen their partnership, describing Pakistan as an important partner in Canada’s trade strategy. She noted that there are broad opportunities to expand cooperation in trade and other sectors, while adding that more than 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin continue to serve as a strong bridge between the two nations.
