Iran Denies Reports of Agreement to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran has dismissed media reports claiming that it has agreed to a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, describing the reports as false and insisting that no change has been made to its policy regarding the strategic waterway. The reports had cited Israeli journalist Barak Ravid, who claimed Iran had accepted a proposal allowing ships to enter the Persian Gulf through Iranian territorial waters and exit via Omani waters.

According to News Agency, citing a source close to Iran’s nuclear negotiating team, the Islamic Republic has reached no agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The source said the reports were “false” and reaffirmed that no decision had been taken to alter Iran’s position on the passage.

Fars also quoted a military source as rejecting the claims as entirely unfounded. The source said that as long as what Iran describes as hostile actions by the United States continue, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed under Iran’s current policy. According to the source, passage would only be permitted through designated routes in coordination with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy and after obtaining the necessary authorization, adding that reports of any agreement to reopen the strategic waterway are baseless.
