Taliban Regime’s Growing Ties with India Raise Regional Security Concerns

The Taliban regime’s expanding engagement with India has sparked renewed debate over regional security, with analysts warning that the evolving relationship could have wider strategic implications for South Asia. According to The Diplomat, diplomatic contacts between New Delhi and the Taliban intensified during periods of heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, reflecting a noticeable warming of bilateral engagement.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly alleged that Afghan territory is being used by militant groups to launch attacks across the border, and have accused India of providing financial and logistical support to anti-Pakistan terrorist networks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have maintained that the Taliban authorities must choose between allowing terrorism to persist from Afghan soil or ensuring that Afghanistan does not become a base for cross-border militancy.

Pakistan’s military spokesperson, former Afghan General Sami Sadat and former Afghan intelligence chief Masoud Andarabi have also made allegations regarding financial links and support for militant groups, while defense analysts argue that closer India-Taliban cooperation could facilitate proxy activities and further destabilize the region.
