Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption Disrupts Flights Across Indonesia

A volcanic outburst at Indonesia’s Mount Anak Krakatau on Sunday triggering extensive volcanic ash that mess up air travel and pretentious schools and fishing events. Six airports postponed flights following the outbreak, while hundreds of passengers were left stuck at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

At  Soekarno-Hatta, vwere suspended in the short term due to volcanic ash, disturbing 301 flights, including 58 international flights, according to Angkasa Pura. Flights functioned by Singapore Airlines between Singapore and Jakarta were cancelled for the rest of Sunday following the eruption. The flare-up has inflated numerous other tracks, with airports reporting withdrawals and stays linked to the ash cloud.

Mount Anak Krakatau, situated in the Sunda Strait amid Java and Sumatra, has been venting since Friday. Volcanic cinders stretched up to 20,000 feet over Java and about 50,000 feet over Sumatra and parts of Banten province.

Citizens have been advised to go on cautious, take precautions against ashfall, like avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, wearing eye protection masks while driving due to reduced visibility from volcanic ash. Experts intended a weather alteration operation to stimulate rainfall, with cloud planting among the procedures being considered to clear the volcanic ash

Some schools negated happenings after students and residents informed eye irritation, while fishermen suspended trips because of the volcanic ash. Ferries in the Sunda Strait continued operating but were told to stay at least three kilometres from the volcano.

In the meantime, Mount Semeru in East Java also erupted on Sunday, sending an ash column about one kilometre above its talks. Indonesia presently has five volcanoes at alert level three, including Anak Krakatau and Semeru.

Officials said there was no direct tsunami threat from Anak Krakatau. However, the volcano has a dangerous history. Its 2018 explosion caused a tsunami that killed more than 400 people, while the massive 1883 Krakatau eruption caused more than 36,000 deaths.
