Trump Says US Will Win Iran War, Claims Iranian Radars Destroyed

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said the United States will win the ongoing conflict with Iran, whether through a negotiated agreement or without one, while claiming that Iranian radar systems have been destroyed.

Responding to questions about a possible agreement with Tehran and whether additional US forces could be deployed to the region, Trump said Washington would either secure what he described as a good deal or no deal.

Trump has previously said the United States was winning the conflict and has continued to link a possible settlement to Washington’s military objectives.

Trump also addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, saying US naval vessels are able to pass through the waterway at night because Iran is unable to effectively detect them.

He claimed that Iranian radar systems had been destroyed during US strikes.

US officials have said American forces have targeted Iranian radar, air-defence and mine-laying capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz. Trump similarly said on September 2 that Iran had been attempting to rebuild radar and missile systems and that US forces had destroyed them.

However, the extent of damage to Iran’s radar network and the effectiveness of US control over the waterway remain contested. Commercial shipping data shows that traffic through the Strait remains far below pre-war levels.

The US president also made strong claims about Iran’s economic conditions, saying inflation had exceeded 300 percent and describing the Iranian economy as being in extremely poor shape.

These figures were presented by Trump and have not been independently verified in the information currently available.

Trump previously made a similar 300-percent inflation claim in August, describing Iran as a “failed nation” and saying its economy and currency were in severe distress.

Trump’s latest comments came as the conflict continues into its seventh month, with military operations and diplomatic efforts taking place simultaneously.

The United States has continued military operations around the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran has maintained its opposition to the US military presence and restrictions on maritime activity.

The confrontation has also caused major disruption to commercial shipping. Reuters reported that only three commercial vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on September 16, compared with a 10-day average of about 17 vessels.

Although Trump has continued to speak about the possibility of an agreement with Iran, no final peace agreement or lasting settlement has been announced.

The latest statements therefore leave open two parallel possibilities: continued US military pressure and renewed diplomatic efforts.

Trump has indicated that Washington intends to maintain pressure while pursuing an outcome that addresses its stated objectives, but the timeline and eventual shape of the conflict remain uncertain.
