Fox News Poll: Trump Approval at 39% as 60% Reject Iran Military Action

WASHINGTON: A new Fox News poll shows US President Donald Trump’s job approval rating at 39 percent, while 61 percent of registered voters disapprove of his performance.

The survey, conducted from September 11 to 14, 2026, found that 60 percent of voters believe the United States made the wrong decision by taking military action against Iran, while a smaller share supports the decision. The poll surveyed 1,211 registered voters nationwide and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.

The survey also found that around 70 percent of voters believe the Trump administration does not have a clear strategy for ending the Iran war.

That view was particularly strong among Democrats and independent voters, while a significant share of Republicans also expressed the same concern.

The findings come as the Iran conflict has continued for months, with the war also contributing to higher energy costs and concerns about its wider economic effects.

Asked about the decision to use military force against Iran, 60 percent of voters said the decision was wrong, according to the poll.

The survey also found that voters remain divided over the conflict’s long-term impact on US security, while concerns about the duration of the war and its consequences continue to influence public opinion.

Trump’s approval ratings varied across policy areas.

According to the Fox News survey, 43 percent approved of his handling of immigration, 37 percent approved of his foreign policy performance, while only 24 percent approved of his handling of inflation. His overall approval rating stood at 39 percent.

The survey showed that economic concerns remain particularly important to voters.

When voters were asked to identify the most important issue facing the country, 34 percent cited the cost of living, making it the leading concern.

Another 14 percent identified the economy and jobs as the most important issue, while immigration and other issues followed at lower levels.

The poll also found that 61 percent of voters consider gasoline prices a major problem, while 62 percent said the same about grocery prices and 54 percent about housing costs.

The Fox News survey found that 51 percent of voters would support the Democratic candidate in their congressional district if elections were held at the time of the survey, compared with 44 percent for the Republican candidate.

Among voters certain to participate, the Democratic margin was wider. These figures reflect the poll’s snapshot of voter preferences and are not a prediction of election results.

A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll released earlier in September found Trump’s overall approval rating at 35 percent, up slightly from a record-low 33 percent in the previous survey.

That poll also found Democrats ahead of Republicans by 44 percent to 37 percent among respondents on a generic congressional ballot.

Differences between polling results can reflect variations in sampling, methodology, timing and question wording.

The latest Fox News survey comes amid continuing debate in Washington over the costs and consequences of the Iran war.

The conflict has contributed to higher energy prices and increased pressure on US military resources, while the administration continues to face questions over its strategy for ending the war.

The poll does not establish whether these views will translate into future voting behaviour, but it provides a snapshot of registered voters’ current views on Trump, the economy and US military action against Iran.
