Smart lockdown termed necessary for running wheel of national economy.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza said, while talking to a private TV channel.

He underlined the smart lockdown necessary for running the wheel of national economy.

He said the government disagreed with proposal of World Health Organization for imposing 15 days lockdown and 15 days ease in it.

The Special Assistant said the government is providing all health facilities, equipments and enhancing the capacity building of hospitals.

He urged people to act according to the Standard Operating Procedures which the government issued.

Otherwise, problems both people and the government would have to face problems.

Replying to a question, he said the government would increase the capacity of 1,000 ventilation beds in different hospitals in provinces.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz also spoke on Coronavirus.

While talking to a private news channel, he said the government is following a clear COVID-19 policy, based on ground realities, since outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

He said the National Command and Operation Center is taking decisions on the basis of daily analysis of the situation.

He cited the government’s preparation for the expected peak of COVID-19 next month.

The minister said no health infrastructure in the world can absorb such a big crisis,.

However, the government would try its best to effectively handle the situation.

Shibli Faraz said despite meager financial resources, the government has enhanced health facilities to almost three times.

He said these include increasing the number of ventilators from 2800 to 4800 with additional 1400 in pipeline.

Besides, he cited enhancing the number of beds to 800 alone in the federal capital hospitals with thousands in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

Moreover, the minister mentioned provision of oxygenated beds.
