Gaza ceasefire talks show no progress

Hamas has left Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo after there were no signs of progress due to Israel’s lack of interest days before the advent of Ramazan. On the other hand, the US blamed Hamas for failure to strike a deal on Israeli hostages.

Israel also blamed Hamas for the lack of agreement after four-days of talks that were mediated by Egypt and Qatar about a 40-day ceasefire.

Sources in Egyptian security said talks, took place without an Israeli delegation, would resume on Sunday.

Senior officials of US administration said the onus was on Hamas to complete a hostage deal. They attributed the delay to what they claimed as Hamas so far not agreeing to free elderly and sick hostages.

A Hamas official said the US was in partnership with Israel and termed such comments as misleading.

The Palestinian group has insisted that a ceasefire agreement include a process toward ending the war altogether.

It said, earlier in a statement, the delegation left Cairo to talk to the movement’s leaders, “with negotiations and efforts continuing to stop the aggression, return the displaced and bring in relief aid to our people
