Punjab Schools timings changed again amid heatwave alert

Sindh schools, colleges to begin summer vacations on June 1
The School Education Department of Punjab has once again revised school timings across the province in anticipation of an upcoming heatwave.
According to the latest notification issued by the department, all educational institutions have been instructed to implement the new schedule without delay. The change comes after the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast above-normal temperatures and potential heatwave conditions starting from April 14, 2025.
Revised School Timings in Punjab
Under the new schedule, single-shift schools will now operate from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while schools will close at 11:30 AM on Fridays. Additionally, teachers are required to be present from 7:15 AM to 1:30 PM throughout the week.
This adjustment follows an earlier change implemented on April 1, 2025, for the summer season. However, the department deemed it necessary to revise those timings due to the changing weather patterns and warnings issued by the Met Office.
Heatwave Warning
In a press release issued Friday, the Meteorological Department stated that a high-pressure system is expected to develop over the upper atmosphere from April 13, leading to heatwave conditions in several parts of the country. The situation is anticipated to escalate into a severe heatwave particularly in southern Pakistan starting Monday, April 14.
Authorities have urged educational institutions and the public to take precautionary measures to protect against the extreme heat expected in the coming days.
