Ceasefire breakthrough came after US call to Modi: American journalist

11 May, 2025 01:08

An American journalist described in detail the American efforts behind the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

According to American journalist Elena Trina, the US vice president called Prime Minister Modi to negotiate a ceasefire. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the White House Chief of Staff were monitoring the India-Pakistan conflict.

The journalist further added that the United States received a worrying intelligence report on Friday morning. American officials did not disclose the nature of this intelligence due to sensitivity.

US Vice President JD Vance called Indian Prime Minister Modi and told him that tensions were likely to escalate over the weekend if they continued.

The US Vice President urged Modi to reach out directly to Pakistan, while Vance urged Modi to consider alternative ways to reduce tensions.

Vance suggested to Modi a possible alternative route that could also be acceptable to Pakistan, after which the US Secretary of State and State Department officials remained in contact with Indian and Pakistani officials throughout the night.

The Trump administration played no role in drafting the agreement. The Trump administration encouraged both sides to negotiate. The United States believes that Vice President Vance’s call to Modi was a turning point in the whole matter.
