Special Savings Certificates: Profit Rates Updated for May 2025

29 May, 2025 23:34

The Central Directorate of National Savings, commonly known as Qaumi Bachat, has revised the profit rates for its key investment instruments for May 2025, in line with ongoing economic trends.

Due to a consistent decline in national inflation, the profit rates for Special Savings Certificates have been slightly reduced. These certificates are a preferred investment choice for small to medium investors, offering a secure and flexible option with returns every six months over a three-year term. There’s no upper limit for investment, making it accessible to all income brackets.

“The profit rate for Special Savings Certificates in May 2025 has been set at 10.90% for the first five bi-annual profit periods. For the sixth and final profit period, the rate will increase to 11.90%.”
This means investors will earn Rs 5,800 on a Rs 100,000 investment every six months initially, and Rs 5,900 in the final profit period.

Taxation on Profits:
Profits for Active Taxpayers (ATL) will be subject to a 15% withholding tax. However, non-filers will face a higher deduction of 30%.

Meanwhile, the profit rate for Behbood Savings Certificates has been slightly increased following a routine review in March 2025. The revision will remain applicable throughout May.

“According to the latest revision, the Behbood Savings Certificates Profit Rate for May 2025 has been updated to 13.68%. It means that an investment of Rs 100,000 will give a monthly profit of Rs 1,140.”

Both schemes continue to be attractive options for investors seeking stable and periodic returns.
