Govt announces public holiday on 1st Muharram 2025
The United Arab Emirates government has announced a public holiday on Friday, June 27, 2025, to mark the beginning of the Islamic year 1447 Hijri. This holiday will apply to all government sector employees.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) confirmed that government workers will have the day off, resulting in a long three-day weekend including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Normal office hours will resume from Monday, June 30, 2025.
The Islamic calendar is based on lunar months, and the new year starts from the first day of the month of Muharram, an important religious occasion for Muslims.
