UAE, Pakistan Sign MoU to Boost Governance, Reforms

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that the United Arab Emirates has placed his country among the ranks of developed countries with its modern management system. Pakistan is eager to benefit from the experiences of the United Arab Emirates. 

According to a press release issued by the Media Wing of the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday, a high-level delegation from the United Arab Emirates, led by Deputy Minister for Cabinet Affairs for Competition and Knowledge Exchange Abdullah Nasr Lootah, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The delegation also included UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi and Abdullah Al Balouki and Ibrahim Al Ali of the Government Knowledge Exchange Office.

This meeting was very productive. The UAE played an important role in reducing tensions between Pakistan and India in the Pakistan-India conflict.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has taken steps like digitization and a paperless economy to improve its administrative structure, in addition to which a faceless customs system has also been implemented. To achieve good governance, the government of Pakistan wants to benefit from the experiences of the United Arab Emirates so that these steps can be made more effective.

UAE Minister Abdullah Nasr said that the UAE and Pakistan have long-standing brotherly relations. He appreciated the important role of the Pakistani community in the development of the UAE. He said that we are happy to exchange experiences and information with Pakistan.

Later, the prime minister and Abdullah Nasr attended the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

Under this MoU, the two countries will cooperate in improving government performance by exchanging knowledge and mutual experience, guidance, and development models in relevant fields.

The MoU covers cooperation in areas such as good governance, development planning, public sector reforms, human resource development, urban planning, science and technology, and other areas.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi were also present at the ceremony.
