Monsoon Rains to Start in Pakistan From Tonight: PMD Issues Weather Alert

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that monsoon rains are expected to begin across the country from Monday night, June 24, 2025. According to PMD, moist currents are entering upper and central parts of Pakistan and are likely to grow stronger over the next few days.

A westerly wave is also expected to hit the northern areas by June 25 and become more active by June 26.

Areas to Receive Heavy Rainfall

Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan:

From June 24 to July 2, rain and thunderstorm are likely in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, and Mirpur.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas like Skardu, Gilgit, and Hunza will see rainfall from June 26 to 29.

Punjab:

From June 25 to July 1, cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan will experience rain with scattered heavyfalls.

Southern Punjab districts such as Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and D.G. Khan are expected to receive rain from June 26 to 28.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Rain and thunderstorms are forecast in KP cities such as Peshawar, Swat, Mansehra, and Kohistan from June 25 to July 1.

Balochistan:

From June 25 night to June 28, northeastern and southern areas like Khuzdar, Lasbella, Kalat, and Dera Bugti may see rainfall.

Sindh:

Rain is also likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, and Karachi from June 25 to 28. Both upper and southeastern parts of Sindh will be affected.

Flash Flood Warning

PMD warns that heavy to very heavy rain could cause flash floods in hilly areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Swat, Dir, and Mansehra.
Urban flooding is also possible in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Punjab and Kashmir during the wet spell.

Advice for Travelers and Tourists

PMD advises all travelers and tourists to be careful. They should plan their journeys according to weather conditions and avoid risky areas during the rain. Sudden flooding, slippery roads, and landslides can occur in mountain regions.
