Over 700 Arrested in Iran’s Crackdown on Alleged Israeli Spies
More than 700 individuals have been detained in Iran amid a sweeping crackdown targeting suspected Israeli spies, according to international media reports released on Wednesday.
Iranian news outlets also confirmed that another individual accused of working for Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, has been executed. This marks the third such execution within a week, as Tehran intensifies its campaign against alleged espionage activities.
In a related statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed the country’s commitment to its nuclear program. “We will not abandon nuclear technology,” he declared. “We have worked tirelessly to develop this capability. A war was forced upon us under the excuse of nuclear weapons, and our scientists have made enormous sacrifices in this field.”
What Sparked the Espionage Crackdown?
Suspicion of widespread espionage activities arose after a series of precision attacks that appeared to target Iran’s top leadership with remarkable accuracy. Analysts believe that these coordinated operations may not have been possible without assistance from Israeli intelligence assets operating inside the country.
Experts also suggest that Israel’s intelligence network is not limited to Iran but spans the wider Middle East, including key Gulf states. This extensive reach, they argue, complicates any potential retaliation by Iran against Israeli actions in Palestine, Lebanon, or within its own borders.
