Chris Park aka Abyss Officially Retires From Wrestling After 21 Years in the Ring

25 June, 2025 19:26

Wrestling legend Chris Park, better known by his ring name Abyss, has officially announced his retirement from in-ring action. The 51-year-old confirmed the news in an interview while celebrating his appearance in the newly released WWE 2K25 video game.

Abyss debuted in 2002 and spent most of his career in TNA Wrestling. He was famous for his hardcore matches and terrifying persona, earning the nickname “The Monster.” Despite never wrestling in WWE, he is now a full-time backstage producer for the company.

“I’m officially retired,” Park told Metro. “I’m deeply involved in my work as a producer now. Wrestling again is not an option.”

End of a Hardcore Era

Abyss hasn’t wrestled since 2019, the same year he joined WWE behind the scenes. Known for extreme stunts and bloody matches, Park admitted that his body had taken a lot of punishment.

“The bump card is used up,” he said. “I’m still young at heart, but I’ve had my share of tough matches.”

While fans always hoped to see him in the Royal Rumble or face The Undertaker, Park says he has no regrets. He stayed loyal to TNA, turning down past offers from WWE out of respect for his long-time company.

WWE 2K25 Appearance: A Dream Come True

Abyss is now part of WWE 2K25’s Dunk & Destruction DLC pack, making history as the first TNA character in a WWE video game. The DLC also includes The Great Khali, and NBA stars Shaquille O’Neal, Tyrese Haliburton, and Jalen Brunson.

“It’s a bucket list moment,” Park said. “I never thought I’d see Abyss in a WWE game with my theme music and my weapon Janice.”

The former TNA World Champion received a full-body scan to ensure his video game version looks just right. Now, fans can create dream matches like Abyss vs. Undertaker or Abyss vs. Kane inside the game.

Focus on Producing

Chris Park now works full-time under Triple H as a producer on WWE Raw, SmackDown, and Premium Live Events. He helps new WWE Superstars plan their matches and is learning from legends like Michael Hayes, Brian James, and Ed Koski.

“It’s an incredible experience,” he added. “Working with such brilliant minds makes the final product even better.”

A Legacy of Loyalty and Pain

From fire tables to thumbtacks, Abyss gave fans unforgettable moments. Though he was scared at times, he always tried to take calculated risks.

“I always got nervous before big spots, and that kept me sharp,” he explained. “One spot I wish I could take back is the chokeslam through a flaming table by Bubba and D’Von.”

Despite chances to leave, Park stayed with TNA because of loyalty and friendship. Now, his legacy lives on through WWE 2K25, where fans can replay his most iconic matches.
