The much-anticipated Criminal Justice: A Family Matter (Season 4) concluded on July 3 with its gripping eighth and final episode on JioHotstar. The courtroom drama took viewers through an intense murder mystery involving a complex family dynamic, psychological tension, and a shocking final confession.
Murder Mystery: Who Killed Nurse Roshni?
The season focused on the murder of Roshni Saluja (Asha Negi), a nurse found dead under suspicious circumstances. Her romantic partner, Dr. Raj Nagpal (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub), quickly became the prime suspect, though “he maintained from the start that he had not killed her.”
Raj’s broken marriage with Anju Nagpal and their daughter Ira, who has Asperger’s, were central to the plot. Roshni was taking care of Ira, which created friction between Anju and Roshni. The story escalated when Roshni was found dead shortly after Ira’s birthday, with Raj discovered holding her body.
Madhav Mishra Takes the Case
Raj was arrested, and Anju hired lawyer Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) to defend him. As the case progressed, Anju’s behavior and motive drew suspicion. She eventually confessed to the murder, claiming she saw Roshni poison Ira and, in a panic, accidentally killed her with a scalpel.
Hidden Truth Revealed
After Anju’s arrest, Raj visited Madhav and revealed Anju had terminal pancreatic cancer. This prompted Madhav to revisit the case. He met Anju again in the hospital, where she finally revealed the full truth: “Raj had actually killed Roshni after catching her poisoning Ira.” Anju confessed she took the blame willingly to protect Raj and Ira’s future.
Madhav’s Moral Dilemma
Madhav secretly recorded Anju’s confession, but “ultimately decided to delete the recording”. He respected Anju’s dying wish and chose to preserve Ira’s future over exposing Raj, making a morally complex decision that reflected his character.
The finale of Criminal Justice Season 4 highlighted the lengths one can go for love and protection — even if it means bending the law to do what’s right for family.
