Heavy Rainfall Lash Several Cities of Punjab, Cause Urban Flooding

On Sunday, heavy monsoon rains lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, as well as various parts of upper Punjab, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas. The downpour caused urban flooding while bringing relief from sweating and blistering temperatures.

According to the reports, the rainfall caused a noticeable rise in the water level of Nullah Lai. At Katarian, the water level reached 13.5 feet, while at Gawalmandi it was recorded at 8.5 feet.

Several cities in Punjab, including Lahore, experienced intense thundershowers, disrupting daily life. However, the showers also brought pleasant weather conditions. In Lahore, Lakshmi Chowk recorded the highest rainfall at 62 millimeters, followed closely by Pani Wala Talab with 60 millimeters.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a rain alert for Balochistan, warning of expected rainfall across several districts from July 5 to July 9.

According to the PDMA, the areas likely to be affected include Sibbi, Ziarat, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Musakhel, Dukki, Loralai, Barkhan, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Sheerani, Harnai, Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Sorab, Awaran, Washik, and Lasbela along with their surrounding regions.

The PDMA has advised district administrations to remain on high alert to prevent any potential emergencies. It also urged the public to stay informed through reliable weather sources and to avoid traveling to low-lying and disaster-prone areas.
