Israel Ready to Vacate Most of Occupied Gaza: Israeli Defense Minister

08 July, 2025 10:36

Israel has expressed its willingness to vacate most of the areas of Gaza it currently occupies.

According to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, Israel is prepared to vacate most of the 75% of Gaza that it currently occupies. He stated that continuing the war in the remaining 25% of Gaza would be unnecessary.

He emphasized that extending the fighting in those remaining areas would pose an unnecessary risk to the hostages still held in Gaza.

Gallant said that after tomorrow, Gaza will be “without Hamas.” He also expressed hope that a 60-day ceasefire agreement with Hamas could be reached.

According to Katz, under the terms of the ceasefire, Hamas would release ten living hostages and return the bodies of about half of those who have been killed in captivity.

He added that any remaining points of disagreement would be addressed during the ceasefire negotiations. These include the conditions for ending the war completely, Hamas’s future role, the provision of humanitarian aid, and designated boundaries for the Israeli military.

He also stated that Hamas has agreed to the Philadelphi Corridor (along the Gaza-Egypt border) remaining under Israeli military control.

Additionally, Katz has ordered the military to develop a plan to build a new city in the devastated Gazan area of Rafah, with the intention of resettling the entire population of the Gaza Strip there. However, Hamas has not yet issued a response to this controversial proposal.
