Double-decker buses Karachi: Check routes & launch date
The Sindh government has announced that double-decker buses will start running on the roads of Karachi in August 2025. The news was shared by Sindh’s Minister of Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, during a press conference.
He said the new buses are part of efforts to improve public transport, reduce traffic congestion, and make it easier for people to travel in the city.
The first route for these buses will include Shahrah-e-Faisal, one of Karachi’s busiest roads with a high number of daily commuters. The project is being launched as part of the People’s Bus Service expansion.
The minister also shared plans to add 500 to 1,000 electric buses to the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Work is already ongoing on the BRT Red Line, which will use electric buses to cut fuel usage and improve air quality in Karachi.
This launch will bring back double-decker buses to the city for the first time in years. In the past, Karachi also had circular railways and trams, which were once an important part of the public transport system.
