Over 200 Tourists Rescued After Flash Floods in GB

Over 200 tourists stranded by flash floods in Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan, have been rescued and relocated to Chilas for shelter in hotels and guesthouses, according to government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq.

The rescue operation, aided by military helicopters, continues for 20–30 still missing tourists, with five deaths confirmed so far.

Heavy monsoon rains and a cloudburst in the Babusar area triggered the flash floods, sweeping away vehicles—estimates suggest around 30 were lost to the flooding.

Local residents and military personnel used debris-clearing machinery to rescue stranded people and recover bodies.

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued landslide and flood warnings across Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir due to expected rainfall and risk of glacial lake outburst floods .

Diamer District Commissioner Attaullah Kakar reports emergency services are active on Thack–Babusar Road. The affected section has been closed, with strict travel bans in place at both ends.

An emergency control room is operating 24/7, and six heavy excavators have been dispatched to assist with road clearance and potential recoveries .

The Pakistan Army’s Force Command Northern Areas is delivering medical care and food to stranded tourists via helicopter, and one body is scheduled for aerial evacuation .

Local social worker Muhammad Ali noted that 30 vehicles were washed away and that “most people have been rescued by the locals” .

 Flash floods in Diamer have triggered a large-scale rescue operation involving military helicopters and heavy machinery. Over 200 people have been saved and relocated, five deaths confirmed, and dozens remain unaccounted for. Authorities have sealed Babusar Road, set up control operations, and evacuated tourists from hazardous zones.
